OUR MISSION
Conserving Iowa's Natural Resources
It is the mission of the Kossuth County SWCD to: promote and educate land owners, producers
and Kossuth County residents about soil and water conservation practices.

ABOUT KOSSUTH SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT
Support for Conservation Projects
Our district is committed to helping landowners and producers plan, implement, and maintain effective conservation practices that protect soil health, improve water quality, and support long-term stewardship of Iowa’s natural resources. While we are not a contracting service, we provide valuable guidance, education, and resources to help you move your project forward with confidence.
What We Provide
✔ Conservation Program Guidance
We help landowners understand available cost-share programs, eligibility requirements, and the steps needed to apply. Whether you’re exploring cover crops, terraces, waterways, buffers, or other conservation solutions, our team can walk you through your options.
✔ Technical Assistance & Recommendations
Our staff can explain practice standards, provide general recommendations, and help you identify what may best suit your land. We also assist with basic planning questions and program-related requirements.
✔ Access to a Contractor List
Although we do not perform construction or installation work directly, we maintain a list of contractors who are experienced in various conservation practices.
This contractor list is available upon request.
✔ Coordination with Partner Agencies
We work closely with the NRCS and IDALS to ensure your project meets the technical standards required for cost-share eligibility. When additional support is needed, we can help connect you to the right agency.
What We Do Not Provide
To set clear expectations:
-
We do not bid or complete construction projects
-
We do not provide engineering services
-
We do not schedule or manage contractor work
-
We do not guarantee funding approval, as all programs depend on state or federal guidelines and availability
How to Get Started
If you're interested in beginning a conservation project or want to see which programs and incentives you may qualify for, simply contact our office. We’re happy to review your goals, explain your options, and provide the contractor list if needed.
